Symbols of Freedom but also of my life, these paired works were inspired by my nascent awareness of America occasioned by the centennial celebration of The Statue of Liberty in 1986 and the pride in my French heritage stimulated by a similar celebration of The Eiffel Tower in 1989. The Parisian scene also owes a debt to Chagall’s painting of the Tower seen through a window. My life has now been almost equally divided by residence in these two wonderful countries and my work is strongly influenced by that experience.
